To Quote a Fool's Heart

What comes to your mind when you think of a fool? Is it an unlearned person or someone that lacks common sense? Maybe it is a person that always makes the wrong decisions. No one wants to consider themselves a fool. The Bible tells us that there is one characteristic that marks a fool, and that is found in Psalm 14:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." The act of saying there is no God doesn't make a person a fool, people say there is no God because they are fools to begin with. One definition of a fool is "one who is deficient in judgment, sense, or understanding." The word 'fool' in this verse means "stupid; wicked (especially impious), vile person". It comes from a word that means "disgrace, dishounour, lightly esteem".
When I think of a person that not only doesn't believe in God, but doesn't believe there is a God, I think of a fool. This is someone who has poor judgment, no sense or understanding. They will not go to the Bible, or if they do it is just to find something (out of context or the wrong application) to support their foolishness. The Bible tells us that the natural (or lost) man cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God and that they are foolishness to him.
The Holy Spirit of God will give a lost man light for salvation. That is, the Holy Spirit drawing a man with the truth of the Scripture about Jesus Christ and salvation by grace through faith. Outside of salvation, a lost man can't understand the Bible. Why would a lost person seek to know anything of the Bible but totally ignore his own salvation? Because he is a fool. Psalm 19:1-6 tells us that God shows His creation that He is the Creator every single day. Romans 1:19-20 tells us that they are without excuse. This means that any fool that confesses 'there is no God' is willfully ignorant and rejects the light given to them.
Jesus said in John 12:32 "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." That verse is the promise that all men will have an opportunity to be saved. The fool is one that will reject the light given to them and ultimately reject the Saviour.
Don't be a fool or be willfully ignorant. Trust Jesus Christ today before it is too late.
