Philippians 3:13-14 "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
While my Mom was sick and suffering in the hospital and later in the nursing home, we spent so much time and energy taking care of her and doing the things that needed to be done. It really consumed everything we had. It was a real honor to do those things for her since she took care of me my whole life. After she died we had to deal with her funeral, which I was priviledged to preach, and had to wrap up all the loose ends that comes with it. Now that it is 'over', we must press on from here. It is not easy to refocus, especially after losing one you love, but the world keeps going.
It is time to get on with the work the Lord has for us here. Focusing on the future is the only way to make forward progress in this life. No one ever gains ground while looking back. When we put our hands to the plow, we must keep our eyes on the field lest we stray from the path that is ours to till.
The next time you feel like you can't go on, just remember that there is a prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. He wants us to go on and accomplish great things in this life for the glory of God. Don't ever give up because Jesus didn't give up on you!
